High Speed Rail
Where will the "train to nowhere" go?
Below, you can find a quick summary of Senate votes, the High Speed Rail route, and what the project will cost Californians.
California Facts and Stats
High Speed Rail
Last week, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1029 on a partisan vote in both houses. The bill scraped by with a 21-16 in the Senate and a 52-28 vote in the Assembly. SB 1029 appropriates $8 billion to begin the acquisition and construction of the California High-Speed Rail. $5.8 billion authorized to start construction in the Central Valley. This includes $2.6 billion in bonds and $3.2 billion from the federal government. The bill also includes about $1.9 billion in funds for local rail projects.
The final cost: $68 Billion. This does NOT include inflation or any increases in costs. Now is not the right time for High Speed Rail. We need to get our priorities right: Stop spending billions of dollars we don't have on High Speed Rail. Stop raising taxes on Californians who are struggling to make ends meet. Stop putting our youth and education funding on the chopping block - and risking their future.

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.
-Thomas Paine
