DeVore To Lead Illegal Immigration Taskforce

(SACRAMENTO) – After successfully eliminating $500 million in illegal immigrant healthcare benefits from this year’s state budget, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) has been appointed chairman of a special legislative taskforce on illegal immigration. The Republican Taskforce on Illegal Immigration will hold townhall meetings throughout the state to measure and put on the official record the real impact illegal immigration has on the state.

“Illegal immigration costs California taxpayers over $10 billion per year. The last thing we need to do is to provide new benefits that encourage people to violate immigration laws of the United States,” explained DeVore. “This Taskforce will quantify the impact that illegal immigration has on California and propose real solutions to this devastating problem.”

The Taskforce was created to force the California Legislature to address the massive illegal immigration problem. Following a series of townhall meetings throughout the state, the members will propose a comprehensive illegal immigration reform package.

“Assemblyman Chuck DeVore is leading California’s fight against illegal immigration,” said Assembly Republican Leader George Plescia. “As a lieutenant colonel in the California National Guard, Chuck DeVore has participated firsthand in the Guard’s efforts to secure our border.”

DeVore is the California Legislature’s leading opponent of illegal immigration. Earlier this year, he led the boycott of Mexican President Vicente Fox’s speech before the California Legislature.

Assemblywoman Audra Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) will also serve as a co-chair of the Taskforce.
