Assemblyman Logue Names Laura Nicholson Third Assembly District Woman of the Year

SACRAMENTO - North State Assemblyman Dan Logue (R-Marysville) announced today that he has named Laura Nicholson, a prominent Yuba County business leader, as Woman of the Year for the 3rd Assembly District. Each year, California State Assembly Members select one woman from their district whose community involvement is deserving of special recognition.

"Laura is a true community leader. Her outstanding spirit of civic engagement has served as an inspiration to those around her, and helped to make Yuba County and the North State a better place.  She is well respected for her dedication to local issues and her avid volunteer work, making her a great choice for Woman of the Year," said Logue.

Mrs.Nicholson served as the Executive Director of the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce since 2003, successfully building the membership to represent more than 700 business and community groups. Her efforts included participating in Operation Save Beale, coordinating the grass roots effort to draw attention to the value of Beale Air Force Base during the Base Realignment and Closure process in 2004. She also championed the Chamber's Shop Local program and worked on behalf of the business community to promote the Shop Local effort

Nicholson has been a member of the Rotary Club of Yuba City since 1999 and serves on the Board as Foundation Chair coordinating the club's international projects including support of an orphanage for girls in Mexico.

She has served on the board of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation and has been a member of the Yuba-Sutter Business Consortium, the Yuba-Sutter Employer Advisory Council, the Beale Joint Land Use Planning Committee and Congressman Wally Herger's Academy Selection Committee, serving as Chair in 2012.

She is a past president of the Covillaud Elementary School Site Council and continues to serves as a Community Representative. She also serves on the Marysville Joint Unified School District Foundation Committee and works with Help Ellis Lake Prosper (H.E.L.P.). She is a member of the American Association of University Women and has served on the Board of United Way and been a member of the Western Association of Chamber Executives.

The ceremony to honor each Assembly district's Woman of the Year will take place on Monday, March 26th in the State Assembly Chambers.

Assemblyman Logue represents the 3rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Butte, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra and Yuba.
