Elected to the California State Assembly in 2008, Assemblyman Curt Hagman is honored to represent the residents of the 55th District. The district includes all, or portions of Brea, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Industry, La Habra, Placentia, Rowland Heights, Walnut, West Covina, and Yorba Linda.
Curt was recognized early on for his leadership by his selection as Assistant Republican Floor Leader. Curt is also Elections Chair for the Assembly Republican Caucus, strategically working to gain Republican representation in the State Assembly. In addition, he is Vice-chair of the Insurance Committee and a member of the Rules, Business, Professions and Consumer Protection, Governmental Organization, and Accountability and Administrative Review Committees for the Assembly.
In early 2011, Curt was also appointed by the Assembly Speaker to the State Allocation Board, which works with the Office of Public School Construction in funding allocation to applicable school districts ensuring appropriate school construction.
Curt has an extensive resume of public service prior to his state office election. His local government experience started as a Parks/Recreation Commissioner in Chino Hills, which sparked a growing passion for public service. Curt was elected to a seat on the City Council in 2004, and served as Mayor in 2008. During this time he worked on a multitude of regional committees which has given him exposure to numerous issues facing his constituency.
He is especially proud of his past involvement within the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board, which is charged with addressing major workforce issues in the county. As Chairman, Curt's role was to convene appropriate parties around issues, create dialogue, and generate innovative solutions in order to achieve a business competitive advantage. This same attitude of innovation and "outside-the-box" thinking served him well on the city council as he secured an additional share of the property tax for the City, and funding for the City's first Community Center. His rapport with the elected county officials and staff led to property swaps that were beneficial to all parties. Curt also volunteers for the San Bernardino Sheriff in a number of positions and is the Specialized Service Bureau's Captain of Disaster Assistance Team.
Curt owns several businesses including Apex Bail Bonds with 3 offices in Southern California, and a real estate consulting/management business. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at UCLA. He is proud of earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. While at UCLA, he met his wife Grace and together they have two children, Jonathan and Elizabeth. Grace received a law degree from Western State University College of Law. They enjoy their life in Chino Hills and moved there for the rural atmosphere and the many family-oriented activities. He and his family attend Inland Hills Church.
